Error: The TAPI32.DLL file cannot start...(due to missing/damaged TAPI32.DLL).
Error:
Error Starting Program. The TAPI32.DLL file cannot start. Check the file to determine the problem.
Cause:
This error can occur if TOOLHELP.DLL in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder is damaged or missing, or has been replaced by another program.
Solution:
Replace the damaged or missing file in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder with the file extracted from the Windows 95 CD-ROM or diskette number 4.
Do one of the following:
1) Extract Toolhelp.dll from the Windows 95 CD-ROM:
a) Insert the Windows 95 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
b) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
c) Select 'Programs' and select 'MS-DOS Prompt'. (The 'MS-DOS Prompt' window appears.)
d) At the MS-DOS Prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each:
CD EXTRACT <drive>:\WIN95\WIN95_03.CAB TOOLHELP.DLL /L C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
(where <drive> is the letter of the CD-ROM drive).
NOTE 1: When prompted to overwrite the existing file of the same name in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder, type Y for yes.
NOTE 2: If the above commands do not work, the location may be incorrect. Please contact a qualified computer or next-level support.
e) To exit from the MS-DOS mode, type the following at the DOS prompt and press ENTER:
EXIT
2) Extract Toolhelp.dll from the Windows 95 diskette number 4:
a) Insert the Windows 95 diskette number 4 into the floppy disk drive.
b) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
c) Select 'Programs' and select 'MS-DOS Prompt'. (The 'MS-DOS Prompt' window appears.)
d) At the MS-DOS Prompt, type the following commands and press ENTER after each:
CD\
EXTRACT <drive>:\WIN95_04.CAB TOOLHELP.DLL /L C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
(where <drive> is the letter of the floppy disk drive).
NOTE 1: When prompted to overwrite the existing file of the same name in the WINDOWS\SYSTEM folder, type Y for yes.
NOTE 2: If the above command does not work, the location may be incorrect. Please contact a qualified computer or next-level support.
e) To exit from the MS-DOS mode, type the following at the DOS prompt and press ENTER:
EXIT
